It’s a new year, and we have for you a new blog. This blog will cover some tips to help you and your family stay secure and safe with your garage door and garage door opener.
- Always unplug your garage door opener from the outlet in the ceiling when you are going out of town for more than a day or two. This will prevent the possibility of your garage door opening as a result of a power surge or a remote control left in a vehicle that’s parked outside. The last thing you want is to get home from vacation to find out that your garage door has been open for three or four days.
- Anytime you’re leaving always make sure and visually watch your garage door finish it’s close cycle. Sometimes an obstruction will blow through the sensor or your door may sense an obstruction and reverse itself, causing your door to stay open until you get home that day. Most safety features are built-in to the electric opener’s these days and have a tendency to reverse with even a little bit of resistance.
- An easy and affordable way to keep your door running nice and smooth is to use Pam cooking spray on the rollers and the spring system. You should still have a professional out at least every two years to adjust the spring tension and check the safeties.
- The garage door button in the entryway should always be placed at at least 5 feet to keep out of reach of children. The safety sensors at the bottom of the track should be mounted between 6 and 10 inches from the floor. The safety beams are to protect your children and pets.
These are a few tips and tricks to help you keep your garage door running smooth and your home safe. Remember, anytime your garage door is off track or a spring is broken you should call a professional to handle the repairs. The spring and cables are under an extreme amount of tension and could cause serious physical injury and even death. We appreciate all of our customers and look forward to serving you this year!
